‘Freak or Fluke’ is a segment where I discuss players fantasy performances, and determine whether their performances were legit, or not.
Breshad Perriman – Freak
Perriman’s season totals were not impressive, but when you look at his final quarter of the season, it’s hard not to be interested in his game. Perriman had at least 5 catches in the last three weeks of the season, over a hundred yards in each of those games, and 4 total TDs. Of course, he was in the anomaly that is the Jameis Winston led Bucs’ offense, but that doesn’t mean he can’t produce now with the NY Jets. He is 6’2 and ran a 4.25 40-yard dash, and showed last year that his solid hands make him much more than an athletic freak. The Jets lost Robby Anderson and Jamison Crowder isn’t going to be the one catching the balls deep downfield. Plus, Perriman is on a one-year “prove it” contract – so the incentive for a big year is there. Unless the Jets draft a big name like Jeudy or Lamb, I think Perriman is in great position to have an overall solid season.

Ronald Jones – Fluke
Ronald Jones bounced back from a terrible rookie season with a pretty solid year in 2019. He finished with 724 yards rushing, 6 TDs and an additional 309 through the air. Now, why do I have him listed as a fluke then? Largely because I don’t think the volume will be there for him. I don’t think he will entirely lose his role as a starter – but I’m fully expecting the Bucs to draft an RB. With Brady’s age, I think there is a very obvious need to have a solid running game. I don’t think Tampa Bay was able to entice Brady to play for them by showing them Ronald Jones – I think there is a plan in place to grab one of the premier backs, whether it’s Swift, Taylor, Dobbins, Helaire, or Akers. Jones is not great as a pass-blocker, and that alone is enough to cut into his snap count with Brady on the field. I want no part of Jones in 2020, and if I have him in a dynasty, I’m selling him yesterday.
